Project WBS Element Definition

Develop a proposal and specification for the procurement of mass storage system components for CDF and D0 for use in Collider Run 2, based on the current budget allocation, which will be reviewed by CDF, D0, and Fermilab. Upon accceptance, to assist the lab procurement staff in carrying out the procurement by providing technical assistance wherever required. Work with the CD technical staff to develop and an installation and commissioning plan, and track the implementation of these plans.

Project Scope and Deliverables

• Start the development of the procurement proposals from information obtained by the Serial Media Working Group, the Recontruction Input Pipeline Project requirements, and the discussions conducted in the Run 2 effort concerning the data access models of the experiments.
• Write necessary procurement and implementation plans and requisitions.
• Work with the Fermilab procurement departments and through them with the vendors to bid, if needed, and place the procurement purchase.
• Work with the Fermilab procurement departments and the selected vendor to ensure the timely delivery and acceptance of the mass storage system.
• Develop and installation and commissioning plan with the CD departments involved.
• Track and help with the implementation of these plans, in particular with respect to coordination between the vendor, the installation team and the Fermilab Procurement departments.
• Coordinate the acceptance of the hardware delivered to provide any necessary technical authorization needed to allow payment.
• Take into account a reasonable and flexible view of the overall Run 2 mass storage architecture and must be particularly aware of the problem of obtaining, as part of or in conjunction with this acquisition, suitable software so that the system can be accessed by the production and analysis computers in a robust and reliable manner and can support the data transfer rates and access patterns that are required."
