Networking Hardware
Plan, procure, install and commision networking hardware for CDF and D0 Run II needs
within the budget allocated. This will include any networking between the Experiment and
the Feynmann Computing Center, within the Feynmann Computing Center as part of the
Production and Farm Systems and the Data Management and Access Systems, and other
networking specifically for Run II needs.
If mandated as requirements for Run II, additional networking may be required as part
of Storage Area Networks providing data for analysis, and track experiment needs for
interfacing to the Wide Area Network for remote access to the Experiment Datasets.
- Upgrade the network from D0 to FCC to allow data logging from the experiment to the mass
store at Run II rates.
- Work with the Mass Storage System Hardware, Reconstruction Farm and Processing Hardware,
and Physics Analysis Hardware projects on the planning and implementation of their
networking needs.
- Procure and install any necessary networking hardware for the above deliverables.
- Collaborate with the ongoing Computing Division support to procure and install any
necessary networking hardware for the desktop sytems at the experiment counting rooms.
- Understand and evaluate the networking implications and feasible implementations for
disk storage systems as needed by the Physics Analysis Hardware project.
- Provide any specialized networking needed for Run II specific Visualization and/or Video
conferencing and/or interfacing to WAN access to the event datasets.
- Evaluate appropriate commercially available technologies based on the evolving
requirements definitions of the Run II experiments connectivity needs.
