Servers: Oracle 8.0.4 servers installed on cdfora and b0dau30. These two and fndauk have required lots of administration to optimize i/o and disk usage, add users, etc. To reduce the learning curve for administering these databases, we sent Barb Angelos to DBA class last week, and Nelly Stanfield is going next week. Client software: SGI 8.0.4 client software is now in KITS. Clients installed on: b0sgz, cdfsga, d0chb. New tnsnames.ora file for unix and NT put into kits. New tnsnames presents the following aliases for database users: NODE DB ALIASES fncduh d0db, d0d1, cdf_dev1 fndauk dev1, cdf_dev2 cdfora cdfoff1, cdf_dev3 b0dau30 ordb, cdf_dev4 CDF calibration database: Work continues on CD's part of the arch test. An API has been designed to connect to both msql and oracle databases, Dennis Box is coding the Oracle implemementation and hopes to have this finished soon so he can move on to other projects. Coming Projects: D0 Trigger database and D0 RCP database work is planned. Hot backup and replication testing is looming as a high priority, the workload of installing servers and developing software has postponed this. Interesting Developments: The iODBC project has been taken over by GNU, and renamed FreeODBC . This should mean that code quality will improve rapidly, as should the build environment. I would like to welcome Paul Schmerold of SGI (paul@laser.chicago.sgi.com) to this mailing list, he expressed an interest in this project. He may be coming to some of our meetings to answer questions on SGI/Oracle Very Large Databases.
