Together with the ROOT Development Team, the Fermilab Computing Division is hosting a Workshop addressed to the use of ROOT by US HENP Experiments.

Several HENP Experiments in the United States are proposing to or considering the use of the ROOT system as a part of their data handling and analysis systems. Developers in these experiments are working with the ROOT Development Team on integrating, adapting and extending the system to provide for these needs. This workshop will provide a forum for understanding the needs of these Users and an opportunity to work together with the ROOT Development Team on how these can be best provided and supported.

Rene Brun, Valery Fine, Masa Goto and Fons Rademakers are participating as members of the organizing committee and will be presenting the current status of ROOT development and support, their plans for the future, and will be available for full participation throughout the workshop.

The goal of the Workshop is to provide a common forum:

For discussion of technical issues surrounding the use of ROOT by US HENP Experiments;
To provide for an exchange of information about extensions that have been developed or are planned as part of local Experiment support;
To address ideas and issues concerning the needed maintenance and stability of ROOT during these Experiments data taking periods
To come to an understanding as to how a common source for ROOT might be achievable across a diverse set of Users.

The Workshop will take the form of an overall presentation of the status of ROOT from the development team, site reports from the experiments attending, followed by a series of technical discussions about particular aspects of the system. Each session will have a coordinator who will introduce the session, allocate time for the ROOT development team to present, and record results from the discussions.
